Meter

Weak (or Feminine) Endings

Description

These endings occur when a line ends with an unstressed syllable that is either part of the pre-existing meter or is amended onto the end of a line as an single, extra unstressed syllable. This can be used to give more impact to the following line or to simply end the existing line in a more subdued way.

Never have relish in the faery po(wer)
Of unreflecting love!-- then on the shore
